The first question is “Does coaching work at all?”. As a coach, I think it does, but I also think that we have to do more than just believe. There have been many claims for the benefits of coaching, but a lot of `evidence` wilts under the gentlest of pressure. I have seen excellent coaching cultures where there is sustained high performance and morale, but I cannot be sure whether it is the coaching itself that produces the results or if it is enlightened management which believes in people development and so encourages coaching, that produces the results.
